10 Drama Accelerate (Table B) 2 lessons per week for the whole year
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Carmela Hughes.
Year 10 Drama Accelerate is course aimed at Year 10 students who have shown exceptional promise and skill in Year 9 Drama. All performances will be longer and marked at a higher level than 10 Drama.
Devising
You will develop a play with the format of a 'Hero's Journey' through a video game. The style of performance for this unit is Physical Theatre, and will use conventions from this theatre form.
Drama Techniques (4 credits)
You will work in small groups to direct their own extract from a play. You will be responsible for selecting props, set and costumes and directing all of the performance yourselves. For this project the you will be working on an excerpt from a classic American playwright.
Class Production
The class will perform a New Zealand play across two evenings to an audience of whānau, teachers, friends and invited guests. You will be expected to work with the teacher and your peers to develop your role and get ready for a live performance.
Commedia dell'arte
You'll will work towards an original performance of Commedia, including creating their own lazzi (or tricks) and practicing some acrobatics.
Drama Theory
Throughout the year you will also work on Drama theory/academics.
Class trip
Availability depending, the students can go on an optional trip to see a professional production.

Prerequisites
Completion of the Year 9 Drama Academy course with at least three projects marked at Excellence.
