10 Outdoor Education (Table B) 2 lessons per week for the whole year

Course Description

Learn ‘Through’, ‘In’ and ‘About’ the outdoors:

'Through' the outdoors - Develop understanding, skills and attitudes to enhance interactions and relationships with others

'In' the outdoors - Develop safe practices

'About' the outdoors - Develop knowledge and understanding of the need to protect and care for the environment.

Through the opportunities offered in 10 Outdoor Education, students will develop the following:

·      Responsibility of self

·      Aspiration - a want to improve and do better

·      Self-discipline

·      Self-confidence 

·      A positive attitude

·      Effective communication skills

·      Their organisation skills

·      Perseverance

·      Decision making

·      The frequency of when they think of others

Students will learn about and experience a variety of outdoor activities. This course is predominantly in the classroom, about 70% of the time. Students could cover any of the following topics: Adventure Based Learning activities, surfing, whitewater kayaking, environmental care, rock climbing, mountain biking, navigation, bushcraft, first aid and tramping

Prerequisites

Satisfactory completion of Year 9 Health and Physical Education with an interest in Outdoor Education.

OR HoD approval

Please note: there are limited places available in this course and therefore a students performance in Year 9 and the half payment of the course costs by Friday 16 October may be required to determine final selection.
