Course Description

The study of English literature is compulsory in Year 11.  Your English option will be determined by your Academic Graduation Points for English in Year 10. 

11ENE Students will:

  • Be offered a rich study of literature and language to enhance achievement at Level 1 NCEA 
  • Study a Shakespearean play
  • Focus on achievement with excellence in a wide range of disciplines and prepare to achieve excellence at Level 2
  • Have the opportunity to achieve 19 credits in Level One English

11EN1 Students will:

  • Be offered a rich study of written and visual texts to enhance achievement at Level 1 NCEA
  • Develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills
  • Prepare for academic success in English at Level 2 by aiming for Merit and Excellence
  • Have the opportunity to achieve 18 credits in Level One English

The assessment matrix below shows the standards on offer across all classes. Connections is specific to 11ENE. Formal writing is specific to 11EN1.  Everything else is common to both.

120 or more Academic Graduation Points in Year 10 English (10EN1) including Merit or Excellence in the 10EN1 response to texts, unfamiliar texts and writing assessments.
