The Gateway course is designed for Year 12 and some Year 13. Each Level follows the same outline and all credits are gained from Unit Standards. Work experience is an integral part of this course. You may enrol for this course once only.
Students undertaking the Gateway programme are required to have a parent come to an interview before confirmation of a place in the course. Students are required to be responsible and to have a good attendance record.
The course content is interactive and incorporates guest speakers and community based programmes. Emphasis is on independent learning utilizing collaborative and co-operative learning approaches. Students will need to challenge themselves and develop life skills needed for the outside world. Students will develop an insight into what they may be interested in studying or what field they want to work in when they leave school.
Homework will be derived from Unit Standards and course related research. Booklets relating to work experience will be completed in the students’ own time also. Students must meet all checkpoints to pass this course. Although there are no external exams we may provide workshop sessions during study breaks to provide more opportunity for success.
All course books will be supplied, but students require their own refill, glue stick and highlighter pens. The Gateway classes are taught by Mrs Kemp and Mr Turner.
