11MU1 Course DescriptionTeacher in Charge: Neil Watson.
PrerequisitesSuccessfully completed Year 10 Music (10MU1 or 10MU2) including an 'Achieved' grade or higher in the end-of-year exam and HoD approval.
It is an expectation that students accepted into this course have been receiving instrumental lessons for approximately two years.
Pupils taking this course must have lessons on their major instrument for the whole school year either privately, or as part of the school instrumental programme. It is essential that students are part of a school music ensemble, either instrumental or vocal. Where possible, the group will be any of our Orchestras, Jazz Bands, Chamber Groups, Choirs or part of the Contemporary Music Programme.
A musical background in both performance and theory will have to be demonstrated.

In Year 11 Music, students will learn solo and group performance skills and to develop their composition skills. Students will analyse pieces of music to identify and describe musical elements, feature and context. Through aural training and music materials sessions, students will also learn to identify, describe and transcribe music elements and fundamental materials of music. Students will also learn the features, functions and techniques associated with music technology equipment. Success in this course will lead to Level 2 Music or Level 2 Modern Music.
