PrerequisitesStudents are required to have studied Level 2 Building and Construction either via MAGnet or at School in order to take this course.
Gained NCEA Level 2 and must have an attendance percentage of 85% in 2025.
Please note if you are offered a place on this course but are unsuccessful in gaining NCEA Level 2, your place may be removed in consultation with your Dean.
There are limited places available each year and students may be subject to Deans/DP approval.
There is further acknowledgement of the commitment that is required by both parents and the students taking this course. An email will be sent to students that select this course and both students and parents are required to make a commitment to the course and attendance. Students cannot be at MAGS when they are timetabled to attend MAGnet. Should a student opt to be at MAGS rather than MAGnet they will be recorded as Truant from MAGnet and therefore school. Once students commit to this course they are not permitted to exit the course, 100% commitment is expected of students. This commitment must be made before a place can be confirmed on this course.
The 13MAGnet Building and Construction course is run in partnership with Unitec (Mt Albert Campus), and offers students the opportunity to take their first step on a vocational pathway while still at school. Students spend one day a week at Unitec, studying industry relevant standards which offer credits toward NCEA Level 3. This course is designed for students who are passionate about the Building Industry and want to either move into an apprenticeship or further tertiary study.
Students attend Unitec each Tuesday from 8.30am till 3pm. Attendance is taken twice a day and sent back to MAGS. Students will need to be willing to catch up on work from other lessons that they miss on the Tuesday. They will be provided with tutorials during the school week to help with this. Students and whānau will need to show a commitment to attendance in this course, once this course is selected and students start attending they are not permitted to withdraw from the course. This course will offer approximately 20 credits which will count towards Level 3 NCEA. This is subject to change and will be updated at the start of next year.

Contributions and Equipment/StationeryStudents will be provided with steel-capped boots, safety glasses, a hi-vis vest. They must have these items and a device every week.
