13MM3 Course DescriptionTeacher in Charge: Neil Watson.
PrerequisitesStudents accepted into this course need to have successfully completed and passed 12Mu1, 12MM3 or provide evidence of prior musical engagement and a willingness and attitude to explore their self-identity through music. Acceptance into this course may include an interview/audition with the TiC/HoD
It is a prerequisite that students accepted into this course have been receiving instrumental lessons for at least four years. Pupils taking this course must have lessons on their major instrument for the whole school year either privately, or as part of the school instrumental programme. It is essential that students are part of a school music ensemble, either instrumental or vocal. Where possible, the group will be any of our Orchestras, Jazz Bands, Chamber Groups, Choirs or part of the Contemporary Music Programme.

Study contemporary music with a focus on music technology, techniques and associated equipment relevant to today’s music, entertainment and events industries. Students will look at ways to empower their musical intention in the recording studio and onto the stage while developing skills and knowledge through hands-on experience in audio production, sound design, song writing and performance. The Modern Music course looks at industry skills including but not limited to live sound engineering, music production, contemporary music performance, electronic music and sonic art creation. Learners enrolled in this course will be encouraged to create collaboratively and express imaginative thinking.
Pathways following from 13MM3 include music industry internships, further study in music at Mainz, SAE, NZSM, UoA and music careers as creators.
