10 Agricultural Science (Table C) 4 lessons per week for half a year (semester)

Course Description

The Year 10 course introduces students to the fundamental principles of Agricultural and Horticultural science in a New Zealand context. 10AG1 is about the interaction between people, plants and animals in the New Zealand environment. Students will be expected to practically participate on the school farm, gardens and to go tree planting to complete this course. Topics include plant and animal science, an introduction to NZ agriculture, conservation and careers in the primary industries. 


Assessment
The students will have two topic tests, one each on plants and animals. There is also assignment work which will be completed in and out of class.

10AG1 - Supplementary costs: Approx $70
The cost includes $20.00 for resources and two field trips at a total cost of $50
There is also an optional field trip at $20 (on top of the $70)

Prerequisites

At least all Year 9 Science topic tests attempted, including end-of-year Science exam. Students must be able to demonstrate the ability to listen and follow safety instructions and have an interest in farming and the outdoors.
