Gateway offers students the opportunity to experience workplace learning while still at school. Gateway is a partnership between you, the student, parents/caregivers, the school, and employers.
Gateway is aimed at students who want to explore:
- Life in the workplace
- Possible future jobs
Gateway offers a selection of unit standards based on:
- Life skills
- Employment skills
- Is based on your interests
- Is usually 1 school day per week for approximately 10 weeks
- Can lead to job opportunities
To apply for Gateway you must have:
- 90%+ attendance record
- Level 1 NCEA
- An idea of the type of work you’d like to experience, plus a positive attitude
(If you don’t quite meet all these criteria, please come and talk to the Careers team about options)
There are two Level One standards in this course.
Everyone must complete one of these, U.S. 479, before going out on work experience.
Not all of the standards will be attempted by all students. However, all students will be given the opportunity to complete a minimum of 20 credits.
Entry requirements for the Gateway programme:
• 90%+ attendance record
• Level 1 NCEA
• A positive attitude
• Individual cases can be considered by appointment with the Careers Head of Faculty
Students and their parent(s)/caregiver must attend an interview at school as part of the Gateway programme application process.
Total Credits Available: 28 credits.
Internally Assessed Credits: 28 credits.
