Level 1 Drama offers students a range of assessment opportunities in performance, script-writing, improvisation, and theory. This course is good for new and experienced students both. There are two classes for Year 11 - 11 Drama General and 11 Drama Accelerate (through application).
Throughout the year you will complete these projects:
Devising
creating your own theatre
Throughout the year you will learn how to devise a successful drama. This is an ongoing process which is assessed at the end of the year in lieu of the traditional exam in a final devising workshop.
Drama Techniques
self-directing a script
You will work in small groups to direct your own extract from a play. You will be responsible for selecting props, set and costumes and directing all of the performance yourselves. Assessment is based on your ability to create and perform a character, and is individually assessed.
Class Production
The class will perform a New Zealand play across two evenings to an audience of whanau, teachers, friends and invited guests. You’ll be expected to work with the teacher and their peers to develop their role and get ready for a live performance. Assessment is based on their ability to act out their role in the play and their effect on the audience, and is individually assessed.
Drama Theory
Throughout the year students will analyse and reflect on a range of professional performances.
