12 Physics 2

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Sarnia Slabbert.

Students will:

  • Prepare for NCEA assessment at Level 2
  • Study mechanics, electromagnetism, and atomic and nuclear physics
  • Demonstrate understanding of physics relevant to a selected context

Open to Year 12 and 13 students only

** The 13PY2 course does not meet the Physics entry requirements of the BE (Hons) Degree at the University of Auckland.

*** If students do the 12PY2 course they will be eligible for the 13PY1 course if they pass both externals at merit or higher level (or students can do the 13PY2 course the following year).

Prerequisites

From 11SD1: 

  • High Achieved or higher in mechanics term 2 exam AND at least an Achieved in electricity and magnetism and waves MCEA assessment

OR 

  • High Achieved or higher in electricity and magnetism and waves MCEA assessment AND at least an Achieved in mechanics term 2 exam

From 11SI1

  • Merit or higher in mechanics term 2 exam AND at least one Achieved in EITHER of the acids and bases MCEA or genetics MCEA assessments.

AND 

  • From 11 mathematics: Achieved in algebra or 60% in the Algebra Skills Test or equivalent assessment.

OR 

  • HoD approval.
