Course Description

Prerequisites

Students apply to the Director of Rugby with a Pathway through the Year 9 and 10 Rugby Academy (10RU1).

Year 10 Physical Education (10PE1) MERIT for Personal/Social Responsibility.

Students will attend 11PFR 4 hours per week. The lessons will consist of both practical and classroom based learning where they will be introduced to concepts to help understand;

  • Body structure and function in the performance of rugby.
  • Concepts involved in participation and performance in rugby.
  • How health and well-being relate to and are influenced by rugby.
  • Knowledge of movement, skills and technique in rugby.
  • Self-management skills during fitness training and skill development practices.
  • Interpersonal Skills through rugby activities.


These concepts will be taught through the following units of work in a Rugby context-

  • Apply movement strategies in Rugby and Rugby sevens.
  • Biophysical impacts on performance. This involves investigating human anatomy, biomechanics and exercise physiology in relation to better improving Rugby skills.  
  • Socio-cultural impacts on participation unique to NZ Aotearoa. This involves students discussing the various impacts of society on their participation levels and choices. 
  • Applying strategies to demonstrate kotahitanga. Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate interpersonal skills contributing to kotahitanga (unity).
